Windermere, The Royal Normal College for the Blind, England
Description:
A photograph of "Windmere", the Principal's residence at Royal Normal College for the Blind in Upper Norwood, England. Also located in "Windmere" were the Kindergarten and the Sloyd Shop. The college property containing 16 acres was purchased at different times. The residences, bought with the land, retained their original names and were known as "The Mount", "The Roses", "Walmer", and "Windermere". They were occupied by boys and girls of different ages. A large building was erected containing a music hall, school rooms and dormitories. The college grounds were laid out with separate playgrounds and asphalt walkways for the different ages and genders, a cycle track and a small body of water for boating, flower beds, and gardens for the children. A notable feature of the grounds is the large number of beautiful shade trees and flowering shrubs.
