Letter from Capt. A. Keller to Michael Anagnos, Nov. 14, 1891 (p. 1 of 2)
Description:
Tuscumbia, Ala., Nov. 14th, 1891 Mr. M. Anagnos So Boston My dear Sir Last Saturday night Miss Annie was slightly bitten on the hand by Helen's mastiff "Eri" and as the dog was, I am afraid, mad, having been bitten three weeks ago by a cur supposed to be suffering from rabies and showing every symptom herself, we [were] very uneasy about Miss A. but she laughs at the idea of fear and won't hear to the idea of going anywhere for treatment. My Brother telegraphed from Hot Springs yesterday to send her to the Pasteur Institute in your city but she refuses to go. Miss Annie denied at first that any blood was drawn fearing to alarm my wife but now admits that there was blood and that Eri licked it off. I would have had an excision made at once if she had not concealed the extent of the scratch...
