My Dear Sir, I am just up today from an attack of la grippe, which, with lumbago has virtually disabled me for several weeks. I have intended writing to you for some time, and a letter from Miss Hoppkins, to my wife, just received, stimulates me to perform that duty above. Two weeks ago I sent Miss Annie some money to be used in defraying her own and Helen’s expenses in coming home, but left the date of her return entirely with her, supposing, as a matter of course, that she would confer freely with you and consult your wishes, as far as possible, in fixing the date.
