The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, known as JDC, was founded in 1914, shortly after the outbreak of World War I, to send aid to the Jews of Palestine and Eastern Europe who were in danger of starvation. The JDC is an independent, nonpolitical American Jewish Relief and welfare organization dedicated to providing emergency aid and long term assistance to individual Jews and Jewish communities throughout the world, outside of the United States.
