In the Helen Keller room at the American Foundation for the Blind. Left to Right: Eric Boulter, Robert Barnett, his secretary, Peter Salmon, Helen Keller, Polly Thomson, Dr. Gregor Ziemer. Peter Salmon was a Perkins student with partial vision, he specialized in deafblind education and was a staff member at the New York Association for the Blind. Starting in 1924, up until her death, Helen Keller was a member of the American Foundation for the Blind staff, serving as counselor on a variety of issues, both nationally and internationally. Also, in 1924, she started campaigning for the Helen Keller Endowment Fund. Always concerned for people "less fortunate than myself", she worked tirelessly with the foundation to improve the lives of people everywhere with blindness, especially for those with deafblindness. One of her proudest accomplishments was the formation in 1946 of the AFB's special service for people with deafblindness.
