Watertown businessman and inventor. Manufactured bicycles and invented the quadricycle. He also invented the turning mechanism for the automobile. Although this patent expired in 1907, the records show that a number of early automobile manufacturers paid royalties to Elliott for this invention. Among these were the Duryea, Haynes, and Stanley. Sterling Elliott had invented the addressing machine to address his magazine wrappers in 1898. He held over 125 patents, receiving his first one at the age of 22.
