In 1909, Murray Potter of Cambridge bought a brown-shingled Victorian house on Main Street that had been constructed about 1895 by Elizabeth Dix. Potter then had the house rebuilt as a copy of the Pierce-Nichols House in Salem. The Pierce-Nichols House, built by master wood carver Samuel McIntyre, is frequently referred to as the most elegant of his Salem houses. This building is now part of Lancaster's Perkins School.
