Description:
Mary L. Roberts writes to William Lloyd Garrison asking about the role her father, John Needles, played in establishing the Genius of Universal Emancipation newspaper in Maryland. She tells Garrison that her father is "in his 90th year" and that she "would be glad to recall a little of his former life for his encouragement." Roberts also mentions that her and her husband, Benjamin Rush Roberts, "are deeply interested in the Indians and are doing what we can for their help." She tells Garrison that her husband is a member of the Board of Indian Commissioners and signs the letter "Mary L. Roberts wife of Benjamin Rush Roberts."
