Description:
David Ruggles writes to William Lloyd Garrison expressing his regret at learning that he had a relapse. Ruggles advises Garrison to "keep quiet, and free from excitement." Ruggles also suggests Garrison spend "five or six weeks at a water-cure" and invites Garrison to the one at Northampton, stating it would give him "the highest gratification, to put you through free of charge."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Above the salutation, the number "75" has been written in pencil, while in the head- spine corner a small checkmark has been drawn, also in pencil. Above the first line of the letter, below the date, there is a purple circular stamp containing the words, "Garrison MSS." Along the fore edge of the page, there is a small hole measuring about .9 cm x 1.9 cm. On the verso, the letter is addressed to "Wm Lloyd Garrison. 25 Cornhill Boston" and is postmarked with a red circular stamp that reads "Northampton Ms. Dec 7". Along the spine edge of this page, there is the remnant of a red seal that is mostly covered in paper.
