Description:
Samuel Edmund Sewall writes to William Lloyd Garrison sending $45 "to aid in publishing the Liberator", on behalf of Sewall and his wife, as well as from "Miss Robie." Sewall says he does not want their names to appear in the paper, but that Garrison could still state that money was received "without giving names as it may lead others to do likewise."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper with an embossed logo of a sheild in the head- spine corner. The shield contains the words, "& Co." while a belt encircling the shield bears the words "Superfine". In the head- spine corner, in different handwriting from the letter, is written "S.E. Sewall Esq. Washington D.C. 27 Jan. 1865". Thhe number "$45.00" is also written in black ink on top of the embossed logo. Under the salutation, the number "16" is written in pencil.
