Theodore Dwight Weld writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding his anti-slavery labors and thoughts on the "women's question." He writes, "Abolition has upon us all the spirit claims" and discusses the disagreements among friends on these issues. He writes, "to go against enemies is easy enough-indeed not to go against them is a..conquest over human nature-but to go against friends is the only vial test of animal independence."
