Letter from George Thompson, [England], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1877 June 6th
Description:
In this letter, dictated by George Thompson to his granddaughter Elfrida May Chesson, Thompson says "thrice welcome to England!" to William Lloyd Garrison. He advises Garrison to visit his daughter Louisa in Manchester, and then another daughter Amelia and her husband Frederick William Chesson, in London "where you may be assured you will recieve a most cordial and affecionate reception." Thompson then discusses his own poor health and reports that his wife "took to her bed ... and keeps it still, and has little prospect of a speedy return to health". In the postscript, Thompson comments on the "sudden death of Wendell's [Phillips Garrison] beloved wife and my dear old friend Lucy [McKim Garrison]" as well as the death of "our mutual friend and veteran fellow laborer Edmund Quincy."
