Description:
In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, Henry Egbert Benson reports to Garrison that some new subscribers have not yet received their first copies of the Liberator and sends him money for another new subscriber. He tells Garrison that he has just purchased "a small black book" and promises to "endeavor in [the] future to keep things a little more regular." Benson also tells Garrison that "Rowland Greene, a friend residing in Plainfield (Conn[ecticut]) has quite a concern upon his mind to visit Providence very soon, and enquire into the stituation of the colored population." Greene plans to stress to "some of the white inhabitants the great necessity and duty of well educating the colored children" and also later plans "to visit some of the Southern States." Benson then discusses a "lost bundle" sent by Garrison, saying it is possible it was left in New London and "that Mr. Allen who has the care of the packages &c ... is moreover rather a careless man." Benson promises to "write him a letter immediately, describing the bundle and requesting him if he has it, to forward it to New York, forthwith."
