John Bowers writes to William Lloyd Garrison, Samuel Edmund Sewall, and Eleazer Mather Porter Wells in response to the "circular from the Anti Slavery Society of Boston ... to raise the sume of twenty five dollars to assist in defraying the expense of the potrait of Miss Prudence Crandall." Bowers sends them the $25 requested and calls Crandall, "a thorough going abolitionist whose name ought, and no doubt will be handed down to posterirty as one of those great heroines whose names but seldom adorn the modern History of America."
