- Letter from Harriet Lupton, Leeds, [England], to Mary Anne Estlin, [1848?] August 29
- Description:
-
Harriet Lupton writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to paying for the Liberator in advance. She was surprised by [Frederick] Douglass's comment on a letter from William Wells Brown on the subject of Father Henson. He finds Douglass's paper interesting containing articles on many African Americans. He has seen the Crafts. His paper contains the name "Miss Griffith" in each series whom Mary Anne once characterized her as "F. Douglass' evil genius" and Lupton asks if she has separated him from the Garrison party? He sends his note to Mrs. Chapman. A second letter written by Harriet Lupton to Mary Anne Estlin thanking her for her letter and for not being able to get more anti-slavery people to visit. She has not received her report. Because of the delay in the next issue of the Advocate, she believes she can get more names if she thinks they have gained very few. She hopes to write to Mrs. Chapman. The Jo[seph] Luptons had dinner with them. Dr. Bigelow was dining with them. A third note written by J.J. Waring to Mary Anne Estlin dated June 11 [no year] thanking her for the papers she sent him and he discusses his "definite infatuation" with the principles of the American Anti-Slavery Society.
