Letter from George W. Putnam, Lynn, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, 1851 Aug[ust] 10th
Description:
George W. Putnam writes to Samuel May sending him the money they collected at "an excellent meeting in Haven Row Hopkinton last Sabbath." He says that "two dollars & a quarter were contributed by the audience" and "$2 more were contributed by a former old line anti Slavery man (now a Free Soiler) named L.H. Bowker." Putnam also mentions that "there was a Bogus quarter dollar of the worst kind among the money collected from the audience" which reduced the total amount collected to $4.
