PROVENANCE: Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy G.509.C28H with two autographs of Adolphus de Joigny de Pamèle ("Adolphus pamelius Bruge[n]sis -- A quoi tiendra") on front pastedown. Early inscriptions and annotations throughout, including a full-page (French?) inscription on the first rear flyleaf and a Latin inscription on the rear pastedown, signed "Desen bouc behoert toe Franchoys da [Pamela?]" Two overlapping 19th-century paper auctioneer’s tickets the head of the spine, the topmost bearing number 142. Purchased from Lathrop C. Harper in December, 1960 (See catalogue 4: A Selection of Fine Books & Manuscripts, no. 15).

BINDING: Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy G.509.C28H bound in contemporary red and black goatskin with silver clasps and catches. Arms of the Joigny de Pamèle family, with the motto "Daultrui te pas mesle," inset in both covers. Spine paneled and tooled in gilt.
COPY NOTE: Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy G.509.C28H imperfect: leaf C2 wanting, with a blank leaf of manuscript notes tipped into its place. Ruled in red throughout. All 86 woodcuts and most initials fully painted over and illuminated; device on title page painted over with portraits of two former owners and their coats of arms, possibly Adolphus de Joigny de Pamèle and Madalene vanden Heede.
COPY NOTE: Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy G.509.C28H bound with a contemporary manuscript of 39 leaves written in a single semihybrida formata in black ink with red rubrics; initials illuminated in shell gold, most on red grounds. Comprises abbreviated offices for major feasts of the temporale, along with various prayers and devotions, many of which promise indulgences. Contents include prayers for the dead, for after communion, to be said before going to sleep and on entering and leaving the church; prayers for dedication of a church and on taking holy water; prayers to be said before and after elevation of the Host; prayer to the Holy Name, Seven Sorrows and Seven Joys of the Virgin, suffrages (10,000 martyrs, Erasmus, Adrian, 14 Holy Helpers, Francis, Martin, Job, all saints, Holy Trinity), Seven Last Words, prayer of St Gregory to the Five Wounds, and other prayers, devotions, etc. Also contains the Hours of Saint Katherine and Saint Barbara.
