During the Gilded Age, many American millionaires sought matches for their daughters with eager candidates from Europe's nobility. Such a match was made on June 29, 1907, when Cornelia Thayer wed Count Carl Von Moltke of Copenhagen, Denmark. Nathaniel Thayer III, father of the bride, gave his daughter away in the drawing room of the Homestead. The setting of the ceremony was said to have been modeled after the recent wedding of Teddy Roosevelt's daughter Alice.
