Bunker Hill Baptist Church Charlestown, 1845-1910, Bunker Hill Street
Description:
Bunker Hill Baptist Church Charlestown, 1845-1910, Bunker Hill Street. In January 1850, the Bethesda Baptist Church was organized, called since 1851 the Bunker Hill Baptist Church, which built (1851) a plain wooden house at the corner of Mystic Street. Mr. Robert Oliver who taught a bible class here for years remembers hearing as a boy that the great storm that destroyed Minot's Light blew over the steeple of this church, killing a passerby. The church was remodeled in 1885 and made much more elaborate in the style sometimes called "Queen Anne." This house has a steeple westward, and is bounded on two sides by streets and on the other two by buildings.
