The kitchen cabinet, or political money changers removing the deposits
Description:
Andrew Jackson vs. the Bank of the United States. Jackson vetoed the renewal of the Charter of the Bank of the United States just before the election of 1832. After the election, having safely defeated Henry Clay the national Republican candidate and William Wirt, who represented the Anti-Masonic party, Jackson pulled federal funds of the B.U.S. and deposited them in selected state banks. Several of his Cabinet members are represented in the donkey caravan. From left to right: Amos Kendall, Martin van Buren, Francis F. Blair, Jackson's foes Henry Clay and Daniel Webster are to the right of the picture, while Jackson himself and his mythical crony Major Jack Downing stand to the left.
