Note on item: The Auchmuty House. This old mansion is situated on Washington, corner of Cliff Sts., Roxbury, Mass. It was erected about 1761 by the younger Judge Auchmuty who resided here till 1775. Confiscated by the state in 1779, it was purchased by Gov. Increase Sumner who made it his home till his death. It is now [1889] owned by the heirs of Charles F. Bradford. An account of this house and its associations can be found in "Drakes' History of Roxbury" (page 351).
