Letter from Joseph Lupton, Whitby, Yorkshire, [England], to Samuel May, 12 October, 1853
Description:
Lupton announces the shipment of a box of contributions and tells of his efforts to get low freight rates. He asks May when the contributions should reach Boston in order to be on time for the Anti-Slavery Fair and suggests getting the results of the fair written up and sent to England earlier in the year. Lupton mentions Reverend Samuel R. Ward, Professor Allen, and the English tour of Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stowe. He gives instructions concerning the correspondence included in the box and a brief account of the contents. Lupton informs May that he has not heard from Orville Dewey.
A note in May's handwriting near the address reads, "Answer'd Jan. 9, '54."
Correspondence includes original postage stamp.
