Mrs. Taylor says the name of her society has been changed from The Ladies' Emancipation Society to The London Negro Aid Society. She informs May that John Stuart Mill and Thomas Hughes recently joined the new society, which has sent a donation of money to May for the freed slaves. Mrs. Taylor says that the English are greatly concerned over the atrocities committed by Governor Edward John Eyre's administration in Jamaica. She reports that a society for the abolition of slavery has been formed in Madrid and criticizes Andrew Johnson.
