Streetscape of the north side of Main Street, Southbridge, looking west. Buildings that are depicted include, The First Universalist Church, on the corner of Hamilton Street; The Whitford building, the top floor of which was destroyed in a fire in the early 1970s; Hotel Newman, Goodwin's Clothing Store, Mathieu's Shoe Company, Costa Block and the Hartwell building, complete with balcony. The stores have canopies over the windows and doorways. The tree lined Main street is unpaved. Horse-drawn vehicles are on view at the hitching posts. A bollard on the corner of Central Street has a cover with a crest dated 1875.
