Albert Laurentius Johannes Engström, artist, author, b. 1869 at Lönneberga, Smäland, Sweden. Pupil of Carl Larsson at Valand's art school, Gothenburg. Drew "Söndags-Nisse," a comic journal, 1894-96; started one of his own, "Strix," in 1897. Has also written a number of books and several collections of humoristic sketches of life in the skerries. Engström is the most prominent caricaturist in Sweden today and has created in "Strix" a number of new and popular types. He is also an original and delicate writer.
