Letter from Joseph Avery Howland, Worcester, [Mass.], to Samuel May, May 12, 1887
Description:
Howland explains why the audience was so small when May read Oliver Johnson's review of Eli Thayer's book. He encloses a clipping from the "Worcester Daily Telegram" and says that Thayer's attack on the Garrisonians could have been ignored, except that it was published by the Society of Antiquity. Howland says Thayer's actions will not restore his lost reputation.
