Additional information from accompanying material: Poore had bet a man named Burbank that John Charles Freeman would get more votes for President in Mass. than Buchanan. Poore lost bet when Buchanan won both Mass. & then election, so he had to push a wheelbarrow of apples from Indian Hill (W. Newbury) to Boston. When he got to Charlestown, he was greeted by Governor Nathaniel P. Banks and escorted by a band the rest of the way. Wm. P. Macintosh photo- sepia, Daily News, March 7, 1968.
