The Shot Tower
Item Information
- Title:
- The Shot Tower
- Description:
-
The tower rises from a group of low warehouses at a distance from the left side of the plate equal to about one-third of its total width. Behind the tower we see the back of the long row of houses which forms the east side of Waterloo Bridge Road, with the spire of St. John's Church at their further end. The near end of this row abuts on Waterloo Bridge, of which two arches are seen. Other buildings rise beyond the bridge, including a small spire and a lofty chimney. There are two empty rowing boats quite in the foreground on the left but most of the river is unoccupied ; numerous barges, however, are moored close under the further shore and three rowing boats stand a little way out. The second boat has disappeared. The outline of the small spire has been filled in, and the signature is added. The inscription nearest to the left side of the plate is very slightly indicated.
