Letter from Wendell Phillips to Henry Clarke, April 2 [18]68
Description:
Wendell Phillips informs Henry Clarke Wright that he has returned from his "western trip". Phillips states that he thinks it to be "perfectly proper" to call a motion on the matter of expenses, and states that he will raise the matter at the next meeting. Phillips encloses a check for the sum of $20 to Wright, and informs him that in the event that objections are raised, Wright need not let it prevent him from going. Phillips asserts the importance of Wright being present at both the "American Meeting in N. York" and at the "New England Convention in Boston". Phillips states that things "look better" in Washington, D.C., and states that while he does not approve of Salmon P. Chase's "action", he feels "pretty sure" that President Andrew Johnson will "go out which will clear the field for action".
