R. Redington writes to William Lloyd Garrison about working to "remove the scales from the eyes of the nation to the sin of slavery." Redington also discusses the Supreme Court, declaring "all the judges of Supreme Court are staunch Republicans," before stating that he would be "glad to see any of the friends that may visit Ohio."

In the head- spine corner of the first page there is a small checkmark written in pencil, while just above the first line of the letter, along the spine edge, the number "49" is also written in pencil.
