Letter from Gerrit Smith, Peterboro, [New York], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1851 May 2
Description:
Gerrit Smith writes to William Lloyd Garrison saying he will attend "your meeting. I might have called it my meeting also for in heart & aim I am with the Am. Anti-Slavery Society." Smith adds that "hundreds of abolitionists from this part of the county" will also attend the meeting to hear some of the notable speakers like Garrison, George Thompson, and Wendell Phillips. He tells Garrison he will be away next Monday for a few days and invites him to visit on Sunday. Smith also regrets Garrison was not present when George Thompson was his guest.
