Description:
In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, Gerrit Smith thanks Garrison for finding a "volume of selections from your speeches & writings" in his office. Smith values the volume "because of the merit of its pages, but also, because you have presented it to me." He then states that "To be numbered by William Lloyd Garrison among his friends is one of my highest gratifications and honors." Smith also reports that his "dear wife is in stable health."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper with an embossed logo of a shield in the head- spine corner. Inside the shield is an anchor surrounded by the words, "Gray & SB Hague Albany". A checkmark has been drawn over the logo in pencil, while towards the fore edge of the logo, the number "160" has been written, also in pencil. In the tail- spine corner, the phrase "V20, P159" is written in pencil, vertically facing the fore edge.
