Description:
John Cutts Smith writes to William Lloyd Garrison about "the course toward Mr. [Isaac] K[napp] by you and your friends." Smith states that he is "no enemy" to Garrison and discusses his "early connection with the antislavery cause" before demanding that he is "entitled to a hearing at least." He ends the letter mentioning the "hater of slavery, of Issac Knapp."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Above the first line of the letter, the number "281" is written in pencil. On the verso, the letter is addressed to "Wm L Garrison Esq Boston" and the remains of a red, circular seal are visible along the spine edge. Additionally, in the tail- spine corner of this page, the phrase "J. Cutts Smith to W.L.G. in behalf of Knapp, Dec. 10, 1841" is written vertically, in pencil.
