Gerrit Smith writes to William Lloyd Garrison thanking him for introducing Robert Smith to him. He then mentions his desire to see Garrison and his opinions of Congress, stating, "I go home more discouraged than ever. [Joshua] Giddings, [possibly Cassius Marcellus] Clay &c are full of hope - But I am yet to see that there is a North."
