In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, Gerrit Smith discusses the Liberator and the improving health of Garrison's wife, Helen Eliza Garrison. He also remarks that "we have more to fear from the President's Plan of Reconstruction than from any thing I see." Smith adds, "To shut out a million of black men from the Ballot Box is no way to get Peace."
