Description:
Gerrit Smith writes to William Lloyd Garrison about the "rogue 'our friend' Cooley" and asks, "Was there ever before such ... hypocrisy?" He also tells Garrison that he has written a letter for the press, addressed to Garrison and Wendell Phillips, about "the condition of our country" saying "never, never was the subject of our country so gloomy, as now".
