Hannah Swan writes to William Lloyd Garrison enclosing a "proof of your portrait" (not included) and apologizing for having "not succeeded as well as we should have liked." She comments that "the expression is good" and asks Garrison to let her know "of which he would like the greatest number printed."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on blue paper stationery reading "Underhill, High Fell, Gateshead-on-Tyne." with a monogram along the head edge of the page. Above the salutation the number "213" is written in pencil and in the head- spine corner of the adjacent page, "Ms.A.1.2v.39p.113" is also written in pencil, vertically.
The folder contains a memorial card in remembrance of William Smeal who died aged 85 on August 15, 1877. In the bottom left corner of the card, "V.39,P.113" is written in pencil.
