Description:
In this letter, possibly to William Lloyd Garrison, F.J. Thompson introduces his cousin, Jane E. Metford, "who is on a visit to America on a Temperance Mission in connection with the J. Of T." Thompson says that Metford has worked with Mary A. Estlin "in good works" and notes that he is writing on the back of "a protest against horrid war just issued by the Society of Friends of which we are members." In the postscript, he says that "I have written to you before."

Above the salutation the number "50" is written in pencil and along the tail edge of the adjacent page, "Ms. A.1.2 v.40 P.27(a)" is also written in pencil. The letter is written on the back of a printed circular titled "An Appeal Against War. From a Meeting representing the Religious Society of Friends in Great Britain" and the typed address is signed by "G.S. Gibson, Clerk."
