S. Alfred Steinthal writes to William Lloyd Garrison introducing Jane E. Metford as "one of our faithful workers in Bridgewater for the American Antislavery Society" who is now "visiting the States on a Temperance Mission", facts that Stienthal believes will make her "a welcome guest to you." Steinthal then wishes Garrison and his family best wishes from his own family.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed on white stationery with a blue embossed logo at the head edge of the first page, showing a pair of wings around a tail, all surrounded by an oval belt that contains the word "Excelsior." Above the salutation the number "51" is written in pencil, while along the tail edge of the adjacent page, "MS.A.1.2 V.40 P.27(b)" is also written in pencil.
