Letter from Mrs. George W. Sterling, Wilbraham, [Massachusetts], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1879 Apr[il] 29th
Description:
In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, Mrs. George W. Sterling sends him $50 (not included) "for the fund now being raised for the 'colored refugees.'" She says that the names Garrison supplied in his letter "amply endorse the measure" and that she does not know Garrison personally but through her deceased husband who "you may recall as a strong staunch antislavery man". Mrs. Sterling also discusses the temperance movement, stating that her husband also "labored ardently too for the suppression of the evil of intemperance."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in pencil on white, lined paper with an embossed circular logo of a star under a crown in the head- spine corner of each page. In the head- fore corner of the first page, "Acknowledged by W.L.G. Jr." is written and underlined in black ink. Above the second line of the letter the number "95" is written in pencil and in the tail- spine corner of the adjacent page, "MS.A.1.2 V.40P.113(a)" is also written in pencil.
