Description:
Henry Ward Beecher writes this testimonial letter for William Lloyd Garrison, declaring Garrison's "whole life has been made rough and strong by his fidelity to Liberty in an evil time." Beecher says "The Nation will honor itself in a testimony of honor to" Garrison and he "commend[s] Rev. Samuel May of Boston who has been requested to superinted the collection of funds". On the second page of the letter, Roswell D. Hitchcock writes that he "heartily concur[s] in the above."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white, gridded paper. Above the first line of the letter, a blue oval stamp contains the words "Garrison MSS." Along the spine edge of the adjacent page, "MS.A.1.2 v.41 P.53(b)" is written in pencil, vertically.
