Joseph P. Thompson writes this testimonial letter for William Lloyd Garrison stating that while "History must determine ... the relative value of different influences" which contributed to the end of slavery, "the contemporaries of Mr. Garrison in the great struggle, will unite in a tribute of respect to his unselfish devotion to great principles of righteousness, and his heroic and self-sacrificing zeal for the deliverance of the oppressed."

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper with an embossed crest in the head- spine corner of each page surrounded by a belt reading "St. Lawrence Mills". Above the first line of the letter, a blue oval stamp contains the words "Garrison MSS." Along the spine edge of the adjacent page, "MS.A.1.2 V.41 P.62" is written in pencil, vertically.
