Letter from Ralph Varian, Cork, [Ireland], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1846 Oct[ober] 7th
Description:
Ralph Varian writes to William Lloyd Garrison about the journal of "Major Colthurst of Dripsey Castle, Coachford, [who] resided in Jamaica during the working of the Negro Emancipation Act." Varian states that the journal "does much credit to his talents and his heart" and Colthurst wanted to send it to Garrison "as a small testimony of his esteem and respect for, and admiration of, your character and genius". He encloses the note he received from Colthurst (not included) and promises to send Garrison the journal "when I know where you would wish to have it sent."
