Letter from Richard Davis Webb, Dublin, [Ireland], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1864 December 7
Description:
Richard Davis Webb writes to William Lloyd Garrison about the death of "the Earl of Carlisle (better known in the United States as Lord Morpeth)". Webb says that "no man was ever more hostile to the institution of slavery" and describes the Earl's friendly welcome to visiting American abolitionists like Samuel Joseph May and Parker Pillsbury. He also sends to Garrison "a contribution in addition to my usual subscription" in order to support the Liberator and writes that Mary Anne Estlin also promised that "any money received by Mr. May from the sale of the Life of John Brown may be handed towards the same object".
