Letter from Mary Ann Whitaker to William Lloyd Garrison, 1853 March 6th
Description:
Mary Ann Whitaker writes to William Lloyd Garrison expressing her regret for sending Garrison her poems, "those little pieces," saying she "might have been too forward perhaps in expecting you to give them a place in your paper". Whitaker also mentions the Hutchinson Family Singers recent concerts, telling Garrison they were expected at her house during their stay in Roxbury but she "heard nothing of them since" making the plans. She then discusses criticism of Garrison and her decision, after reflecting, to "welcome the principles you advocate, not only with my heart, but with the full and mature convictions of conscience." In the postscript, Whitaker says she would rather her husband "spoke for himself or I might perhaps say a word too much."
