Letter from Samuel Joseph May, Syracuse, [New York], to Mary Anne Estlin, 1865 October 2
Description:
Samuel Joseph May writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to his delay in sending her a letter. He and the Board of Directors thank her for her and Mrs. Nichol's donations to the cause of the Freedmen. He hopes she receives the Freedmen's Advocate so she may know what they are doing. He is glad she published his letter in the London Enquirer but wishes he had written it better. His cousin let him read a letter written to her which cited the disagreement between Mr. Garrison and Mr. Phillips. He has been delayed returning home due to his son's ordination. He wishes she and Mrs. Nichol's would come visit him in the United States. If they do, he will show them the "wonders and beauties of our Empire."
