Letter from William F. Jeffers, New York, [New York], to William Lloyd Garrison and Isaac Knapp, 1833 Dec[embe]r 3
Description:
William F. Jeffers writes to William Lloyd Garrison and Isaac Knapp expressing his support their work and promising to assist them "in ev[e]ry thing you undertake for our people's well Being and what ... [has done] more for us than the Glorious Liberator." Jeffers says that to withhold support from the Liberator "would be a stigma upon us the free col'd population which time could never erase." He then asks Garrison to send him 50 copies of his "Thoughts on African Colonization." After his autograph, Jeffers tells Garrison and Knapp about naming the proceeds from an exhibition "to the cause of Liberation," asking if this would "be against your wish." He also asks if Garrison or Alonzo Lewis would provide "a small article or item on the Press or any subject you think fit for the occasion."
