Letter from Julia A. Tappan, New York, to Anne Warren Weston, 1837 Oct[ober] 11
Description:
Julia A. Tappan writes to Anne Warren Weston in regards to receiving money from Mr. Stanton from the Dorchester society. She is directing a package to Anne so that she may forward it to the secretary of the society. She warns that the secretaries "at the office in this city are so constantly engaged, that there are is danger in entrusting to their care small commisions of any kind." She sent the silks that have been stamped for her society to Mrs. Chapman in the hopes that it will arrive in time for their sale. She writes, "Silk bags are useful, and so are many things that might be and often are sold at as fairs. But there is so much time consumed and..consulting of fashion and conformity to the world that I doubt much whether fairs as they are now conducted, are pleasing to God."
