Description:
In this printed circular, William Lloyd Garrison, Wendell Phillips, and Maria Weston Chapman praise their "esteemed friend, and the early, self-sacrificing, intrepid, and eloquent advocate of universal emancipation, George Thompson ..." They report that he has just returned from India "with ruined health and paralysis of all his limbs" and include an excerpt of a letter from Samuel Joseph May, who had just met with Thompson, stating their goal to raise $1000 for his benefit. They explain that this letter is a private circular, "private because a due regard to Mr. Thompson's feelings makes publicity undesirable - to induce them to gladly to contribute something for his immediate relief." They advise all letters with aid for Thompson to be sent to Francis Jackson, the Treasurer of the American Anti-Slavery Society, "who will see that the money is safely forwarded to Mr. T at the earliest moment."
