Letter from Gerrit Smith, Petersboro, [New York], to Maria Weston Chapman, 1839 April 6
Description:
Gerritt Smith writes to Maria Weston Chapman quoting his wife's desire to become well acquainted with the Chapmans" and expresses his agreement with her wish. But his property concerns prevent him from his "ardent desire." He had much talk with Henry C. Wright about anti-slavery matters. Wright is to preach with them tomorrow. He is distressed by the dissentions which she's described in her letter to him. He asks if she will come to New York.
